Product Notes

She Moved Through the Fair Mountain Thyme Bonnie Tatterson, vocals & mandolin Peggy Longwell, vocals, guitar & mandolin Pam Curry, vocals, bouzouki, & synthesizer Pat Epstein, vocals & bass Guest musicians: John Longwell, low whistle Paul Epstein: fiddle Mountain Thyme's style is often described as "Appalachian Celtic" - reflecting the group's connection to the music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England and to our home place, West Virginia. Some of the tunes and songs on this recording were learned during a trip to Ireland that the group took as part of it's "Ties that Bind" project that explored the cultural and musical ties between Ireland and West Virginia. During the project, the band performed in Dublin, County Clare, and County Donegal. Upon returning home, the group presented a "Ties that Bind" concert, complete with a slide show of the project, at the Capitol Theater in Charleston, West Virginia. "These four very talented ladies have developed playing skills that are obvious when they play the most complicated Celtic melodies. In addition to their lovely harmony singing, they have included three of their original compositions on this recording. The group Mountain Thyme enjoys a camaraderie and love for music that can be heard and felt as you listen." Joe Dobbs, Host, Music from the Mountains, West Virginia Public Radio "...a rewarding combination of traditional Irish tunes, originals, and "contemporary traditional" songs from Charleston's all-female band. The band fares especially well on old-time jigs. Pay special attention to the beautiful, vocal rich title cut." Michael Lipton, The Charleston Gazette She Moved Through the Fair features a wealth of original tunes and a song written by musicians in the band and/or talented friends and family members - 1. Top O'Cork Road/Nearly Ireland (traditional/original tune by Bonnie Tatterson) 2. The Bonnie Woods O'Hatten (traditional) 3. John's Tunes (Kansas City Hornpipe/Flint Hills Jig/The Jig is Up, original tunes by John Longwell) 4. She Moved Through the Fair (traditional)/Andy's Tune original tune by Bonnie Tatterson) 5. Round the Horn (traditional/words by Pat Epstein) 6. March Waltz (original tune by Paul Epstein) 7. Twisted Laurel (original song by Tommy Thompson) 8. The Blackbird of Sweet Avondale (traditional) 9. The Burnt Old Man/The Blarney Pilgrim (traditional) 10. Bricklayer's Song (traditional) 11. Ian's Favorite (original tune by Peggy Longwell)/Hannah on the Mountain (original tune by Brian McNeill and Paul Epstein) 12. The Parting Glass (traditional)
