All I Have to Spare
The debut release of Orangehaus Records' fourth artist, Nathanael Hency's 'All I Have to Spare' is an eclectic folk/rock/pop mix that explores one artist's journal of thoughts, conversations and ideals. His songs pose a challenge to live a life that's in communion with people and the world around us. Raised in a musical family in Anderson, Indiana, Hency has spent most of his life learning how to play guitar and write his own material. 'I may not be writing Christian songs, but the songs I'm writing are morally and ethically in line with Christian teaching. They come out of a genuine care for humanity.' The poetry and passion behind each lyric draws the listener in and commands a response. 'Disruption' is a catchy, pop-driven song that is meant to interrupt the way people view the world and social injustice. 'On My Way' and 'Killing All My Instincts' challenge the listener to be conscious of poverty, hunger and AIDS. From the upbeat, folksy 'My Heart is With Virginia' to the instrumentation of 'The Nightlife of a Paranoid Manic Depressive,' Hency demonstrates the versatility that makes him unique. With his first release, Hency takes his career to a new level. He always writes with the hope that his music will connect with people his age. 'My music is a deeply personal method of expression,' he says. 'Music keeps me going; it's almost like my own journal.'
