Product Notes

"Man, this CD is cool." - Dan Harris, The SoupyGato Show This is the first CD in nine years by multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Kazumi Umeda, a.k.a. New Providence. The record starts with a sort of overture that utilizes material from every other song on the CD. What follows is a journey that takes us from Lennon-like introspection ("The Passers-by") to furious progressive rock with a Scriabin-esque piano interlude ("Moss"), hypnotically droning soundscapes ("Lightfeather") to energetic power pop ("An Ordinary Song"), and many points in between. Some of the songs use sounds captured on a small tape recorder by Kazumi during travels through Japan, including a sample of his father singing an old Japanese bean vendors' song in "The Natto Song." Insert now includes complete lyrics. "The Japanese Andy Partridge." -- Bob Green a.k.a. Grassy Knoll Other New Providence titles available through CD Baby: NEAR SUMMIT (1997; "Part folky, part new-wavey experimental pop genius" - Elysium Magazine) NEW PROVIDENCE (1995; 'Eclectic and enticingly atmospheric pop.' - Cake Magazine #44)
