Product Notes

PEACEFUL WORLD was recorded in October 2001, a month after the events of September 11th. The project was a quick response to help the victims who were children. UNICEF announced that their funding priority was to aid the children in New York City and Afghanistan (and later Iraq). Nicole Milner had the idea to release a CD that would benefit UNICEF and that was the birth of PEACEFUL WORLD. All profits from the sale of the CD go to UNICEF so it is a great idea to buy several and give them as gifts. Many people donated their efforts and gave charitable discounts to this project including Rankin Scroo and Crucial Youth Studios, Alvino, Discmakers, Nicole Milner, Nomi Yah and XSample. Participant in CD Baby's lucrative fundraiser for Katrina Relief. There are three songs on PEACEFUL WORLD and each song is very different. The children's voices on 'Peaceful World' plead for peace. The pop ballad '91101' mourns the loss of a loved one. The urban dancehall flavored radio hit 'Talk Peace' discusses the value and wisdom of negotiation. The first song is 'Peaceful World' sung by the San Francisco Boys Chorus. Nicole Milner wrote it and also performed on piano. It was picked to represent the United States in an international song contest sponsored by UNICEF for the Year of the Child in 1979. It was released on a UNICEF recording featuring the winning songs from each country. It was re-mastered for release in 2001. The lyrics are the children asking for a peaceful world and the refrain is the word 'please' in English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Russian. The second song is '91101'. It was written and performed by Nomi Yah from Oakland, California. It is about the human emotions in the war, but it is also about anyone who has lost someone they love. Nomi Yah began writing the song on the morning of September 11th as she watched on TV the footage in New York and heard the announcer say 'Ladies and gentleman, this isn't a movie, it's real.' It is a pop ballad. It has been played on KPFA in Berkeley, California, and CaboMil Radio in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In December 2001, while on tour in Mexico, Nomi performed the song in a packed stadium, dedicating it in Spanish to the Mexicans who lost their lives in the World Trade Center. Thousand of people lit lighters and sang along. The last song is 'Talk Peace'. It was written and performed by Nomi Yah and Xsample, from Kingston, Jamaica. The style of music is urban with a dancehall flavor. The lyrics are about negotiating instead of fighting. It has been played on KPFA in Berkeley, California many times, including the anniversary of September 11th. In 2002, it won the Tonos A&R Pick. On '91101' and 'Talk Peace', Nomi Yah produced and performed all the music. Rankin Scroo of Crucial Youth Studios mixed and engineered both those songs. Alvino of N Studio mastered the CD.
