Lafayette & Luxia
Born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Noah Glenn is now a twenty-two year old musician living in Memphis, Tennessee. Fascinated by music as a young boy, Noah began to play guitar at age eight and has spent his time since then teaching himself to play any instrument he could get his hands on. Adding mandolins, clavinets, banjos, and synthesizers which explore a range of time-signatures and styles, Noah creates a musical collage which manages to be wildly experimental yet undeniably catchy all at once. His songs are as original as only the product of a single individual could be, recalling times when pop music was not afraid to try something new. The result is quirky and exciting music that has nothing to hide. With creative vocal melodies and harmonies and blended musical ideas as his palette, it is difficult to confine Noah into any specific genre, but the spirit of his music has drawn comparisons to Beck, Sufjan Stevens, and Brian Wilson. Noah has released two albums - 2005's More Than Machinery, as a limited release, and 2006's Lafayette & Luxia. He also released a download only EP on his website in 2008. Working as both the recording engineer and artist he has broken down a wall that allows him to create music unhindered, transmitting sounds from his thoughts directly on to tape (well, his hard-drive). His stimulating live performances translate his multi-layered recordings into a single man, surrounded by instruments, creating loops on the spot. Hearing his music for the first time, Noah Glenn leaves you feeling elevated and joyful, like meeting someone new who already feels like an old friend. Noah's music has been featured on NPR.org's Open Mic program. What others have said about Noah's music: 'A lush sound with acres of instrumental exploration, playful harmonies, and an overall sense of relaxed songwriting. Glenn forges a brave brand of progressive pop... with an organic indie-pop familiarity that is both reminiscent and radical.' -Performer Magazine (Matthew Godbey) 'The effort is top notch, with Glenn pasting together rich yet not overstuffed sound collages of discordant strings, banjos, hand claps, harmonies, toy piano, and virtually everything else. . . Captivating.' -The Commercial Appeal (Mark Jordan) 'Fun, catchy, playful, and a bit nonsensical. Definitely something to get familiar with.' -ThePalestra.com 'Blown Away. It must be one of the ten best records I've ever heard.' -Mark Snyder, Composer.
