Product Notes

Shaking off 20 years of rust turned out to be an easy feat (no pun intended) for Nubfoot. Their debut album Learning Curve is a journey through the trials and tribulations of life though the eyes of singer/songwriter Bob Brodbeck. 'Guru, Len and I started getting together to jam on some cover tunes, it did not take me long to remember how much I hated doing other people's music, in six months we had twenty originals' says Bob. Within a year Nubfoot was in the studio with over 30 songs to their credit. ' All of us have day jobs' says Guru 'we worked nights, weekends, we drove ourselves to the point of exhaustion.' 'Six months into the studio we decided that a double album might not be worth killing each other over, so we settled on 17 tracks,' says Bob. Learning Curve takes the listener on a journey though 'real world' pain, anger, love and redemption. Produced and mixed by Mike Conway, the album is a mix of acoustic based melodies with strong lead guitar riffs. 'the album is gritty when it has to be,' says Bob, 'my roots are in the classic bands of the early 70's, Sabbath, Floyd, Zepplin and Bowie so I love the sound of a Les Paul through a Marshal.' The album provides an assortment of songs that suck you in and make you want to dance but if you listen closely there is anguish not so far below the surface. 'I've spent a lifetime learning, sometimes the learning was very difficult,' says Bob. 'The important thing is that anything can be overcome, no matter how dire the situation may appear. There is always an alternate path.' It's difficult to select out highlights on Learning Curve--the album is rich with standout tracks--Nubfoot favorites include the first track, 'Everyday Of My Life,' a song that was developed early in the bands history and finalized on Sanibel Island 'It's fairly obvious what the songs is about,' Bob says. 'It's about loving someone and never wanting that to change.' 'Buried,' perhaps the band's rawest lyrical song, features, in Guru's words, 'a scathing indictment of a love gone bad.' 'Suicide' is an intense track about the hopelessness that can be brought on by substance abuse. The album sort of beats you into submission, triggering your fight or flight response but you want to stay around to see who gets their ass kicked. 'We can't wait to get back in the studio and complete our second album, Suck My Stump,' says Guru.
