Product Notes

Patience is a virtue, but don't tell that to Orleck. In the midst of completing his new release, Gray Suburban Day, with producer Anthony J. Resta at the helm (Collective Soul, Duran Duran, Shawn Mullins) Miami-based singer/songwriter Orleck reflects on his long road to musical salvation. 'It's definitely tested my patience, but it's always been in my heart. I think that's what sustained me, especially through some of the tough times. But now that things are starting to click, especially here in Miami, where people have really seemed to embrace both me and this style of music, I'm very excited about the future.' Orleck, has had his share of accolades. His first release, Xenophile, and it's single 'Trip Daisy,' earned him major kudos in the music press, including a nomination for Best New Artist in the Boston Music Awards. Billboard magazine went on to say that 'Orleck is a gifted songwriter with a fine sense of melody,' while iTunes gave the disc '5 Stars..' Orleck feels that GSD has what it takes to follow in the successful steps of it's predecessor, and then some. The songs, emotionally charged and vividly descriptive, paired with Orleck's powerful, yet at times, hauntingly tender voice, transport the listener to an ethereal locale that is definitely not of this Earth. While in the vein of contemporaries Coldplay, Switchfoot and Interpol, GSD possesses the pop sensibility of U2, cloaked in a Bowie-like veil of artistry. But perhaps the most amazing thing about GSD, is that it almost never happened. A story that Orleck is more than happy to explain. 'Like most musicians, I've had to cultivate another career while working on my music, and for me that career has been as an art director. When I moved to Miami to be back near my family, after living in L.A. for a few years, I got a job working for an ad agency called PGI. From here, Orleck's boss, Gaston Legorburu, picks up the story. 'We hired Orleck because we felt that he was a really talented art director. But after a while we all found out what his true passion was. And after I heard his first album, I knew this guy was something special.' So much so that Legorburu not only offered to become Orleck's manager, but bankrolled the recording of GSD, as well as built an entire recording studio in his home for the sessions. 'It's been great. From the very beginning the whole agency has been behind Orleck. It's probably one of the coolest projects this agency has ever worked on, definitely not your typical advertising project.' For both parties, it seems to have been a mutually rewarding, magical partnership. 'After getting to know Gaston a bit I discovered that he always harbored a desire to be in the music business in some way. So it was just a natural progression. And then when we brought Anthony Resta into the mix, we all knew something pretty cool was happening.' Orleck and Resta have finished GSD, which makes Orleck excited, as well as a little sad. 'This whole experience for me has been very special. The way it came together was something I'll probably never experience again. The whole company has taken me under it's wing - it's meant the world to me. I'm really excited about kicking off GSD.'
