I Heard That
To call 'I Heard That' a freshman effort from a fairly new band would be short-selling this record. The members of this group each have ten to fifteen years experience and have been playing together formally and informally for many of them. So when they decided to go into the studio they knew the undertaking had to be in the right hands... enter Frank Marchand III. The head of Waterford Digital Studios and master engineer, Frank Marchand, is a wizard of all things audio. Past groups and individuals he has worked with include Dennis Chambers (Santana, Steely Dan, Parliament Funkadelic), The Decemberists, Kyle Hollingsworth (String Cheese Incident), Good Charlotte, Ron Holloway (Allman Bros., Gov't Mule), Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets), and Jimmies Chicken Shack. After the original audio was masterfully captured it was then taken to the world famous Airshow Mastering Studios in Springfield, VA. While at Airshow the album was brought to it's full potential by GRAMMY Award Winning Engineer Charles Pilzer*, whose credits include Keller Williams, Tom Principato, Jimmies Chicken Shack and dozens of other GRAMMY nominated projects. The Permilla Project is deeply rooted in experimental soul and funk rock with a jam groove, and finds it's traversement through different styles only complimented by the wealth of musicians it's members have shared the stage with over the years. 'I Heard That' is no exception with guest appearances by Patrick Rainey (The Bridge), Jeremy Scott Ragsdale (Susan Tedeschi, Hiromi), Fred Hill (The Grilled Lincolns, Written Prisms), Jake Honoroff (MacGregor, Wax and Herbal T), and The Everrett A. Spells. Members of The Permilla Project have also performed on stage with individuals and groups as varied as The Bridge, The Wooten Brothers, Mookie Siegel (Bob Wier, Phil Lesh & Friends), Nicholas Peyton, Billy Taylor, Jamie McLean (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), DJ Williams Projekt, Papa Grows Funk, The Written Prisms, Jazzam, The Grilled Lincolns, Shane Gamble Band, and countless others over the last ten years. These collaborations have been a blessing and have allowed the group to continually take their music in new and exciting directions. This is the essence of THE PERMILLA PROJECT.
