These MCs decided back in the summer of 1999 that after over ten years of writing, producing, engineering, and duplicating their own hip-hop material, it was time to take the music to the next level. Now focused on getting the music heard by the masses instead of having it sink deeper in the dim lights of the basement studio, these MCs have become a completely self-contained unit. And with this, Phalanx was born. Hookdignious, Jugghead, Devastator, Doctor Mike J, are the main MCs and producers for 'The Phalanx', with Waxo helping out on the production from time to time. These 5 entities make up 'The Phalanx', which owns and operates four home pro-audio studios where all material is written, produced, engineered, and mastered. The Phalanx has made it's free flowin' rhyme styles available to the public by giving away free yearly compilation albums, an exclusive website full of mp3s and concert footage, and it's first full length LP of completely new material: Corporate Raid. The first single off of the album is 'Make Moves'. It talks about how anyone motivated to do something should not let any obstacles stand in their way of success. Having patience and continuing to work hard has always been the Phalanx way. Named after the Grecian battle formation that would bring all of their shields together in combat to protect itself from the enemy, The Phalanx takes this approach in the music business by bringing together writers, designers, producers, and engineers who all have a love for one common thing: getting on the microphone. The Phalanx has managed to release two independent albums consecutively titled PromoMix I and PromoMix II, organize, run and perform three local concerts in their hometown of Flint, MI, and developed a repertoire with other artists as the 'ghetto nerds of hip-hop'. The Phalanx tends to speak on issues that comes from the heart whether it's a song about sitting around the house with your friends having a good time or just a rhyme about how you love to do whatever it is you do. Clever metaphors and reality checks will always stick out to the listeners along with what we like to call 'home grown' production. In an era where sampling is the norm, The Phalanx compels it's listeners to stay tuned in with music made fresh. By pounding the pavement, The Phalanx strives to build up it's fan base enough to sell a couple thousand CDs and get the attention of a major distributor. The Phalanx crew just wants the opportunity to get quality music into the worldwide consumer's hand. Always modest and openly accepting of criticism, The Phalanx is always willing to write new material if we feel a song is just not hot enough. Ultimately The Phalanx would love to share it's talents and opportunities with up and coming local hip-hop artists as well as the known big players in the industry. But until that time and after, The Phalanx is going to keep on making the tracks to make your heads nod, and your CDs re-tracking (or tapes rewinding). We plan on getting into this game and displaying our ability to keep hip-hop and music in general fun for all ages. Corporate Raid is an enhanced CD with plenty of extras such as song lyrics, exclusive interviews, never before seen performance footage, and much more. Get your copy today!
