What You See Is What You Get
NEWS FLASH! Currently nominated for Album of the Year and Wind Instrumentalist of the year at the upcoming Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards! My music can be classified as muscular smooth Jazz with strong R'n'B overtones. I'm very open to world music influences such as Latin (especially Brazilian ), Arabic,Indian,Reggae, and African with a smattering of Oriental. I love incorporating any sound or groove that will make a song come alive and give it meaning and soul. Anything goes in todays music environment. My new CD has 9 original songs covering a wide variety of musical genres and each song is a reflection of journeys I've taken either to physical or meta-physical places. Most of the songs are about enjoying life in beautiful places with people I love with a couple of serious songs to address some of the issues of our world. (Shame + Brasilio) The 2 cover songs (Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get.+Good Morning Starshine) are songs I've always loved so I wanted to record them with my particular spin. I hope you enjoy my songs and I hope to hear from you. For my bio, please go to my profile on Myspace.com.(click link below) or to my new website at: philpoppa.com. Special Thanks to artist Myra Lowenthal for the sublime portrait. REVIEWS: Phil Poppa - What You See Is What You Get Congratulations on turning out a superb CD. Many of the tracks have instant appeal for me and as you know that is always a good sign for an artist. I have played the title track, Hiphop Skip and Jump, Muskoka Moon, Malibu Nights, Groover, Good Morning Star Shine and Brasilia on my programme. Of the vocals my favourite is Shame. It has a great lyric. This CD is well produced and special mention must be given to the musicians who helped out. Mike Kamino does a wonderful guitar solo on What You See Is What You Get and Love Me All Night Long has a great reggae beat. I also enjoyed your sax playing and work on the flute and keyboards. I will make opportunities to keep playing tracks from your CD on my show. I hope it sells well. Regards John Holden, Presenter Blue Note Programme, 2CCR FM90.5 What a GREAT album. I've already started playing tracks on air. The only problem is, there are SO MANY really good tracks that it is hard to choose which ones to play. Well done! All the best Harold Ellison 'The Jazz Cafe' TripleU-FM Nowra, New South Wales Australia email@example.com I'm Bill Sharpe and I host the Sunday program Cool jazz on the coast, St. John's Newfoundland's only local smoothjazz show, on radio station Coast 1011. I recently received Phil Poppa's CD in the mail and immediately added the title track 'what You see is what you get' to my play list. It is a great instrumental rendition of that 70s soul hit and suits my show perfectly. Poppa is a good as. or better than many of the current sax players on the market and in future I will be adding more tunes from the CD to my show... My advice...don't miss this CD.
