Notes on the Bridge
Mariah Picot has released her debut jazz vocal CD, 'Notes on the Bridge...', with the Bill Peterson Trio. She describes it as, 'jazz influenced art songs with a spiritual perspective.' The thirteen song CD is comprised entirely of Mariah's original music & lyrics, except for five compositions written by Bill Peterson. Recording was done in Tallahassee, where Peterson is a professor of jazz studies at FSU. The rhythm section was completed by two wonderfully gifted Boston musicians who are graduates of the Berklee College of Music, Jeff Denson [bass] and Ronen Itzik [drums]. Jon Hibshman, co-owner of Vision Quest Gallery in Panama City, did the painting for the cover. 'I gave Jon a list of all the visual images in the lyrics and he came up with this incredible painting, ' says Picot. 'The songs are really 'scribblings' on the journey, as the title suggests. Peterson had the perfect sensibility for them with just the right balance of sensitivity and virtuosity. ' The CD is filled with heart, soul, humor and depth that comes from a lifetime of experience in the arts.
