Product Notes

On June 1, 1965, the hippie freaks Charlatans and some poets and friends and a big bag of fun began an extended residency at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada, just across the border from Northern California. This two-month-long stint was important for at least two reasons. First, Charlatans guitarist Mike Ferguson and George Hunter together produced a rock concert poster in advance of the residency to promote these performances. This poster - identified by poster art enthusiasts as 'The Seed' - is almost certainly the first psychedelic concert poster. Later in the year, San Francisco's Family Dog organization copied the idea to promote their concert productions. In 1966, when the Fillmore Auditorium began booking rock acts nightly, they, too, used the idea. Through to the end of the decade, rock concert poster artwork became a mainstay of San Francisco's music scene, led by poster artists Wes Wilson, Rick Griffin, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, and Victor Moscoso. Thus our movement was born. Plasticine Porter are moving West. We will put the Red Dog Saloon back together and spread the word of Love. It's too late to give up, Y'all. We can't sit up here on our porch forever. Come go home with us to Nevada, Baby! We'll leave a light on for you. The key is under the mat. No, the other mat. The byProduct of Plasticine Porter resembles Post Modern Mountain Music. The minimalist sounds of string pickers just a-hangin' out on the porch bonding musically in what certain circles refer to as a Jam. So get off your ass and join us. Buy this batch of tunes and contact us to set up an appointment on Your Porch. Our music is Deconstructionism. Where other string bands blend 4, 5 and 6-stringed boxes into a stew, we take it apart and present each texture on your plate all pink and naked. That is the essence of Plasticine Porter, that is the sound of banjo-infused psychedelic Americana. If you like Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson or the Foggy Bottom boys; you will hate Plasticine Porter. If you have ever drank too much moonshine and needed to stick you finger down your throat, you will get it. We are the finger. Our music is something that you may not want, but, by God, you need. Now more than ever let Plasticine Porter give you the finger. Bon Appetit.
