When my partners and I set out to produce this CD, it was clear to us what the goal was. The goal was to cross pollinate, to mix things up a bit. An artist maybe ministering excellently in one market but, because of industry mechanics, was not well represented in other markets. We thought that if a Christian artist had a song that was, for all intents and purposes, urban - then it should be available to all urban listeners. Not just the Christian ones. This would also be true, arguably, in most other music genres. We went after many artists that were very excited about the project. They shared our vision. We were grateful. That was at the beginning of 2006. Fast forward to now. Only a small percentage of the initial candidates are represented on this compilation. Again with the industry mechanics - the old wineskins. We titled this project NEW WINESKINS because Promise Communications main goal is to introduce new audiences to new artists. Yes of course the content is spiritual. That's not what is special. What is special is that here in New York, most of us don't know Shawna Basick. Shawna is a Christian in Los Angeles with a voice - something to share about her life. Big Show is hot in Mobile and Teresa Brown is new to Mobile Alabama. TeTe is a high school student with a lot on her heart and Jeff Murrell is a unique minister of reconciliation just to name a few. Jesus talks about the danger of putting new wine in old wineskins. Basically the problem is that the new wine is still growing, if you will, and will burst the old skins. For us, the music is growing. It's fermenting. We have to prepare new wineskins for this new wine. Jesus illustrated that what he was preaching couldn't be connected with the old doctrines of the Pharisees. We want to put this new wine in a fresh skin - free from all the doctrine of the music industry and share the lives and experiences of these amazing artists with you. I would like to especially thank everyone at Promise - Georgette, Rick & Rhonda - for making this a reality. I would also like to thank my wife, Cjay, for that inspiration that only a godly wife can give. We would also like to say very special thanks to all the contributors and for me personally, I would also like to thank Scott Davis for ministering to me and keeping my eyes on Jesus. Thanks for listening Winston Philip.
