Given time, you come to realise that an absence of fixed roots is more valuable than their presence. They let energy flow, then they stifle; they serve a finite purpose, yet few bother to disentangle themselves when the moment comes. Refreshingly, Pua bothered to. The Canadian-Australian outfit found their initial inspiration in Tokyo, where they are currently based. The feverish atmosphere of the city, combined with their belief in the need for continuous evolution, is what has shaped them as a band. That is not to say they are outside the influence of other innovators, such as The Beatles, Sting and Bob Marley. But more than anything, they take their cue simply from those who are still creating great works of art after twenty or thirty years. Their sound is melodic, memorable, and most importantly diverse; they see no boundaries in music. This six-track offering serves as a Pua introduction while their full debut collection awaits completion.
