Rain Fire : Electric Water
Rain Fire The most difficult question for me to answer is: 'What type of music is it?' The best description I can give is that is entertaining and interesting music. I do not mean to be difficult about it but it is not one or two genres. It is more a mixture of genres. At the same time the selections are not disjointed. I even had our CD surveyed and dropped two songs from it. My actual intention for the CD was to be entertaining and interesting. I wanted to be original but much more important than that was that it was music to please the public, not myself. Some artists make music to please themselves and that is fine if it works out. I think that what I did with this CD worked out just fine because while producing music that pleased the public I found that I was pleased by it also. Rain Fire is a collection of friends that decided to pool their talents and create some interesting music. We tried to make music that was fun for us to produce but we were careful to make it appealing to the general public. I, Alvin would write the music first and then try to gather the sentiment from the music to create the lyrics. Most songwriters create the lyrics first and then put music to it. Desmonde created the lyrics for 'Life is in You' this way and I put the music to it. I had to write the music differently and it was a good experience to do it that way. I gave Karen the music to 'Tuesday Dreaming' and she had to adjust her writing style to follow the music that I had written. Becky and Desmonde sing together in a choir. They are friends that go back over the years. I have worked with Desmonde during my reel to reel tape days. That is the connection that I used to 'draft' Becky into the project. I found Vince in high school doing incredible things with the guitar and when I need guitar work that is beyond by abilities, I put in a call to Vince for the 'killer guitar' tracks. One day I went to see the band that Vince was currently playing in and I knew that their lead singer, Veronica 'RONI' would sound great on some of the songs that I had written. Karen was working with a couple of people wanted me to record her for a project that they were working on. I ended up writing some songs for that project and when it didn't work out, I invited Karen to try singing for me. The title of the CD 'Electric Water' came to me late in the game. I originally planned to have a video ready at the same time the CD was released but if I had done it that way, I would still be working on both of them. So I decided to finish the CD then work on the video. I am about half way through the video. It is going to be a computer animated video with a video performance of a singer inserted within the animation. I have been doing computer animation for about ten years and I didn't have a good outlet for it until now. The title of the video is 'Electric Water'. The song will be on the next CD. It may seem out of place to put a song that is the title track for the first CD on the second CD but since I was on a tight budget, I didn't have the luxury of doing it the logical way. The next CD is already in progress. I have five songs that are completely written and they just need to be recorded. So here we go again (of course I mean that in a good way).
