Raination : Harbinger
Raination (The Real Artist Independent Nation), an emerging independent 'organic hip-hop soul' band, based in the NYC Metro area, features live instruments and original music that fuses elements of hip-hop, reggae, funk, R&B, and jazz. Born of an era that saw hip-hop grow from success to excess, the members of Raination have left the gold chains and name brands at home and have instead brought the focus of hip-hop back to it's most vital components - the quality and message of it's music. Combining emotional, innovative, dynamic, and technically sound riffs with socially conscious lyrics relevant to the times, Raination has formulated a unique and spiritual sound that speaks to the power of each individual to positively influence society. Raination has built an increasingly loyal following through their ability to entertain and captivate audiences. Led onstage by emcee and lyricist Adeodatus 'The Gold Child' (Adeo), the band's frequent live performances have been described as energetic, exciting, and inspirational. Dubbed by many as the 'jam band of hip-hop,' recent gigs include performances with THE ROOTS, KANYE WEST, COMMON, JULIAN MARLEY, LUDACRIS, BLACK EYED PEAS and ROBERT RANDOLPH. In addition to their frequent live performances, the members of Raination are also active songwriters and recording artists. The band's debut EP, 'HARBINGER,' is due out early 2005 and was completely self written, arranged and produced. The record was mixed at New York City's Jammin Downtown Studios, as well as the legendary Chung King Studios, one of the most successful and respected production facilities in the world. Childhood friends 'Blindman' (keys) and 'Adeo' founded Raination in August 2000. After losing touch for a number of years, the two entrepreneurs were reunited through a mutual friend during a phat jam session. Immediately struck by their commonalities in musical style, beliefs, aspirations, and influences (including such artists as the Marleys, Gang-Starr, The Roots, Common, Nas, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Pink Floyd, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson), the pair began pioneering the inspirational sounds and messages of Raination that very night. Adding depth to the band's unique, complex sound are the bouncy, melodic grooves rocked by bassist 'Tomcat' a.k.a. 'T-Dub' and the precise, high energy beats of 'Megawatts' on drums. The rhythmic accompaniments of guitarist Joel Hoekstra, soulful vocal sensation Corinne Gooden, and genius jazz violinist/arranger Mocha Ishibashi continuously turn heads. In addition, Raination often works with djs and percussionists highlighting it's uniquely diverse sound.
