Here's the story. Paul asked Dennis and Kim to sing with him at a special event and from that day forward they haven't stopped. Synchronicity is a word to describe it. Everything just fell into place. Each of them have a deep passion for music and together they bring unique talents to the group to give it it's magic. Dennis Griffiths- vocals, guitar, mandolin Dennis started playing folk music on an acoustic guitar at about age 15. Later he honed his guitar skills playing a variety of styles of music that included country, rock, and blues at local Snohomish County clubs with a band named Just Us. After too many? years inhaling second hand smoke it was time for a change. He began playing outdoor festivals and gatherings with the bluegrass and swing group Sagegrass where he also discovered the joys of the mandolin. Recently he has performed with and added vocal harmony to the groups Acoustic Detour and Somebody's Mother of Camano Island. Real Folk is a return to his roots playing folk music. He continues to be inspired by the works of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Claudia Schmidt and more recently the music of Tim O'Brien. Folk music has always been the conscience of America and it is this love of Folk music that has inspired Dennis to not only perform but to write music that speaks to that conscience. Folk music has a way of letting us step back and look at how and where we live our lives from a different perspective. In the case of his song "Little Blue Dot", that could be from far out in space or as close as your own back yard as in "Stilly River". Dennis believes music should also be fun and entertaining as assured in his song "Different Shoes". As with all the wonderful folks he has played music with over the years he is currently enjoying the time with Real Folk and is looking forward to where this new path will lead. He has great hopes that people will once again stop and listen. If they do folk music will lead the way to a more peaceful and humane world. Kim Longmore, Vocals Ever since I was little I loved to sing. Ask my mom. I would walk around the house making up and singing songs and while I weeded the garden in the blaring hot sun I imagined myself on the big stage singing my heart out like Tanya Tucker. Well, I am not on the big stage and my musical preferences have changed over the years but I still love the music. My mom always encouraged me to explore music so at a young age I played piano and violin. When I grew older I took guitar and vocal lessons. In high school I spent time singing in choirs and participating in school or community musicals as a past time. My solo debut was when I was in 5th grade at the Christmas program. In full shepard garb, I sang a verse of "We Three Kings" to an auditorium full of people. Singing with Real Folk has been the most incredible musical experience I've ever been part of. A communal creative energy flows through the three of us when we get together and something magical happens. It is most inspiring when Paul and Dennis share their new music with me whether it be original or arrangements of other artists. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we inspire each other. The main musical artists who have inspired me are: Wynona, Sarah McLachlan, Colm Wilkinson, and Janis Joplin. Most of all I am continually inspired by independent musicians who love music and want to make the world a better place through this incredible medium. Paul Henderson, vocals, guitar Paul began playing guitar when he was five. His father taught him to play and as a result spent many an evening playing music together. Paul continued to develop his guitar and vocal skills through high school and college playing with various groups. While folk music has always been the music which spoke to him at his core, Paul always continued to experiment and play various styles of music. In addition to the tremendous influence of his father, Peter, Paul & Mary, Hank Williams, Carole King, James Taylor, Nora Jones, and Bette Midler have significantly shaped his musical landscape. Each of them, whether through their writing or interpreting a vision through music and words, brought a new dimension of understanding to his world of music. While Paul has been involved in many musical efforts including playing with his two children (who are musicians as well), he returned to his musical roots this past year when he began singing and playing guitar with Dennis and Kim. Thus the formation of Real Folk. This new journey has resulted in a new energy and passion for performing as well as writing music. Being able to bring attention and awareness through music such "It Begins With You, It Begins With Me" adds another layer of excitement to this adventure. Music is our voice and tool to encourage people, now more than ever, to bring about change and make this world a better place.
