Realiser was formed in 2004 in Halifax, Nova Scotia when brothers Troy and Scott MacCulloch and their cousin, Jason Larsen, were reunited in music after years apart. The trio had played together in the eighties and early nineties as the Strate Jakets, releasing one well-received LP, but went their separate ways for several years in 1992, living in different cities and playing in different bands. Within months of starting Realiser, they had several songs in the can and started pre-production on their first record almost right away. Their debut self-titled CD was recorded in 2005 and 2006 at Common Ground studios in Halifax, and released in late 2008. Realiser's sound is a potent blend of their various and diverse musical influences- there are a lot of progressive (Rush, Pink Floyd, King Crimson), metal (Motorhead, Black Sabbath) and punk (Damned, Clash) sounds, and even some strong pop inflections as well. The boys are 'all over the map', but in a good way- while many songs sound noticeably different from each other, there is a unifying feel and vibe to the music that is unmistakable. Realiser harkens back to a time when music was 'big', in both sound and concept. And they just might be your favourite new band.
