Wishes & Dreams
The CD The Wishes and Dreams CD by Retro-Blue features vocalist Kelly Delaveris in many different styles of music - all with a jazz flavor. Writer / Producer Don Nichols says: 'People tell me this album is very easy to listen to - that it's great music to play at cocktail parties or for romantic dinners - great background music. There was a time when I would not have considered that a compliment. Now I'm quite proud to have been a part of creating a 'very good easy listening' album.' The first track of Wishes and Dreams, 'Mary's Mambo', is a high energy Latin number. Kelly and guitarist Dean Inboden cover the melody and Chris Young and Michael Cox provide pulsating improvisations on piano and sax. Kelly weds her own personal feelings in the next track, 'Sarah's Eyes', that also features Michael on sax. Other popular songs on this CD include the title track 'Wishes and Dreams' - an up tempo jazz waltz that features Kelly along with vocalist Charlie Cesner, "Blue Saturday" - a standard blues tune reminiscent of Miles Davis featuring Tom Battenberg on trumpet, and 'Here We Go Again' - a jazz rock ballad that Kelly really brings home. The album also features solos by Jim Curlis on drums, Andy Woodson's bass, Tom Battenberg on trumpet, Chris Young's flugelhorn, Don Nichols on vibes, Dean Inboden on guitar, and Terry Douds also on bass. Recorded at Lake Hill Sound recording studio, 'Wishes and Dreams' was mastered at Magic Garden Mastering and produced by Project One Productions. The Band RETRO-BLUE is a collection of experienced central Ohio jazz vocalists and musicians. The list of their credits is extensive. As individual players they have headlined with such star performers as Sarah Vaughn, Tony Bennet, Bob Hope, Tom Scott, Joe Williams, Sonny Stitt, and the Brecker Bothers; and played with local orchestras including the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Columbus Jazz Orchestra. Don Nichols and Jim Curlis brought together this unique collection of talent specifically for the recording 'Wishes and Dreams.' However, this ensemble of professionals took on a life of it's own and the band is now currently performing in locations in the midwest to the delight of everyone that enjoys "smooth" jazz with a twist.
