Raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Richard began singing, playing drums and organ at church at 10 years old. The Church of God in Christ, where Bishop Strong pastored, was a 'breeding ground' of sorts. If you didn't know how to play the piano, drums or sing - you were just asked to try (really to 'just do it') and let the chips fall where they might! After joining the United States Navy, Rick still felt an awesome desire to praise and worship God. He began writing songs, sharing them with his shipmates, and singing at the services on the boat. Early examples such as The Winans, Commissioned, The Williams Brothers, Leon Patillo and Edwin Hawkins influenced Rick to develop a love for gospel music and the need to praise and worship! Over the years, Rick has not stopped singing... The creative desire to write and record was a constant pull on his heart. Through it all, there were several churches where he would sing, meet wonderful people and worship the King of kings! Horizon Christian Fellowship (San Diego) and The River (Phoenix) were instrumental in getting back to the 'heart of worship'. He has been blessed to worship with other artists such as Crystal Lewis, Montrell Darrett and so many others. More recent influences to his writing have been Fred Hammond and Donnie McClurkin, two individuals who seem very 'real' in their writing and worship for God. Finally, during this last tour in Japan, the timing seemed to be just right to record. He met a young musician/arranger in Japan, Taro Kijima, who was working on another recording project. Taro is extremely talented the area of gospel music. Taro offered to assist in any way he could and after months of prayer, preparation and WORK - it's here! Rick's style of worship is not a 'style' really, but an experience. Understanding that God is worthy of our all and that He is a very present God Who is close and inhabits the praises of His people is the experience. With that knowledge, Rick does not refrain from an 'amen' or to worship god freely, openly and sincerely. His music is simply, praise and worship...
