'Out On The Highway, Gonna Have Me Some Fun....' Rock & Roll for the open highway is how David Thompson describes the music off the CD from the Redding, Calif. Band 'RIDER.' With all songs written by David, the CD features the incredible instrumental and singing contributions from the cream of Redding's studio session players, all of whom are known locally for work in their own bands and on their own projects. The songs of the 'Doors' and the lyrics of Jim Morrison have made a strong impression on me and my own song writing. I have always been drawn to the darker more obsessive topics that the 'Doors' sang about in songs like 'The End', 'When The Music's Over', 'People Are Strange' and the only cover tune that I do 'Riders On The Storm'. Jim Morrison had a unique way of bringing out in song those things that we lock up in closets out of sight. Those are the things that I also like to write about and 'Taste Of Candy', 'Shadow Of Another Man' and 'It's Not Over' probe these same dark areas of obsession. Songs like these sometimes make people uncomfortable when I play them live, but, I find that I'm able to get into the lyrics and this helps me connect better with my audience. It has been said that I share some of the vocal traits and sounds of the legendary singer and while I am deeply flattered by the comparison I know there will never be another Jim Morrison. 'Ride On' is not just about darker themes. Just as with the 'Doors', there are the good time songs like 'Midnight Flight', 'Eyes Of Smoke And Fire' and 'Your Memory Just Won't Set Me Free' that keep the tempo rockin'. In short, there is quite an assortment of themes and stories in 'Ride On' and I hope that you enjoy them all. David continues to promote 'Rider' as an opening act for touring major name rock bands playing concerts in northern Calif. The CD, 'RIDE ON,' was 4 years in the making and was released 9/15/01 with 16 new songs that continue the 'RIDER' tradition of rock, blues, funk, science fiction, and even 2 songs in the country field. The CD also has alternate stylistic versions of several songs featuring different vocalists. David Thompson I truly hope that the public will enjoy the music on the 'Ride On' CD. One of my continuing goals, in addition to promoting the album, is to keep submitting the songs that I write to TAXI and to publishers, (actually, to anybody who will listen), with the hope of placing some of the material with other artists to record. There's still a lot of hard work to do and goals to work towards, but the odds are certainly better than the lottery and I think music is a lot more fun. I sincerely wish to thank all of you who helped bring my songs to life.
