Rohn Shead is a sexy soul singer who writes and performs his own music. His music is for people who like real music--music that is well made, accompanied by lyrics that say something. Phantasmagoria is an album filled with fun, funky, sexy, and soulful music that will make you feel like dancing and shaking your hips. My hope is to give contemporary rhythm and blues an effective expression, bringing back passion and soul to anyone who is ready for it. I have combined many different types of music into a unified expression of my soul and feelings. I will never forget my gospel roots and I will always draw on them in my performances. It is out of these roots where I learned the definition of expression. My early church singing was always a moving experience. To sing a song for me was for my soul to awaken and speak. It is my goal to take the greatest care to preserve the purity of expression, whether it be musical or lyrical. I hope the love is heard and felt in the twelve selections on this album. The amount of preparation and hard work that went into this album was done in hopes that you might have a wonderful musical journey through my mind. Enjoy!!! In August 1995, Gina Mainwal for Scope Magazine had this to say about Rohn Shead and his then band Groovesprout, 'I wanted more. I couldn't believe we had someone who could actually sing in this place known as the 'entertainment capital.'' In September 7, 1995, Rohn Shead and band Groovesprout opened for General Public at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel. Geoff Carter reviewed the show for The Las Vegas Weekly Magazine and had this to say of Rohn Shead, 'every person attending that show went home a winner, including Rohn Shead and band Groovesprout, who played a funky and superlative opening set. Vocalist Rohn Shead has a voice that eerily echoes Stevie Wonder's, and laid over the sharp instrumental backing of Groovesprout, the sum of the parts is something that Stevie could proudly refer to as 'hotter than July'. Don't doubt my veracity; do not ask around. Go see this band before it manages to vault out of this neon purgatory.' In December 1998, after seeing the show of The Rohn Shead Project, Ken Francis Wenzel had this to say in his review for the Las Vegas Weekly Magazine, 'It's clear from watching Shead on stage that he indeed loves performing. For him, it's all about the vibe--onstage, in the audience, in the club. 'I want to have a show that's energetic, fun, classy and real,' Shead says. He achieves that with a combination of self-effacing enthusiasm and musical presence; Shead's acutely aware that the crowds' perception of the show largely rides on his own performance. 'It's not gonna work if you're just pleasing yourself,' Shead says. 'You gotta make the people be with you. Sometimes I'm in a mood where I don't give a crap about who is out standing in front of my face looking at me, judging to see what I'm going to do next. Sometimes you just want to be like--Get out of my face--and it's easy to get in that mode, but if you're a performer, to do this and do it well you gotta be a pleasant person onstage.'' In December 2001, City Life Magazine picked the Best Top Ten Locally Produced Albums of 2001. Kari O' Conner had this to say of Rohn Shead's CD Phantasmagoria. 'Just when you thought R&B was ailing, Rohn Shead brought back the soul in a serious way. Live instrumentation on tracks like 'I'm waiting' makes Phantasmagoria look like the sort of album the big time R& B playas -- with their Cristal, bling-bling and chart positions--should've made this year. Shead's voice is a smooth as it can get, and he uses it to his advantage in 'Jail Generation' and 'This Land is Filled with Scars and Broken People'-- and he's not just singing for his supper, either. The boy's got soul, no doubt about that.' A BIOGRAPHY In 1993, Rohn Shead became the lead vocalist and keyboardist for Groovesprout, a Las Vegas based band which achieved an enormous level of local popularity. Having written most of the bands original songs, the groups performances were filled with Rohn's passionate lyrical content, topped off by his smooth and infectious lyrical style. In 1995, the band won the Huntridge Battle of the Bands Contest after competing against over 40 other acts. After that opportunity, Groovesprout began receiving mass publicity and performance offers such as opening for the comedian Carrottop at UNLV, Al Green, and General Pulic at the Joint (Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada). Rohn created the 'Rohn Shead Project,' a Las Vegas based soul band which in 1998, became a regular featured act at the popular 'Drink and Eat Too' nightclub. Again, Rohn drove his band to achieve and enormous level of local popularity. The youngest of four children, Rohn recalls that of the age of five his father, a legendary Las Vegas Entertainer, introduced him to singing and playing the piano. He sang with his family in the church choir and eventually realized that he had a strong passion for performing.
