I had originally intended this project as a Christmas gift to those friends and family who have unfailingly supported my musical endeavors over the years. But, as it unfolded, it took on a life of it's own and has become something I feel pretty good about. Of course, making a Christmas album presents it's own unique set of problems...most of the recording was done during July and August, which feels strange, but if you have to have someone outside your window on a ladder with a box of soap flakes...well, we do what we must for inspiration. Avoiding cliche is the other challenge (how many times have we heard these tunes piped over department store speakers while watching otherwise rational adults fighting over this year's hot action figure?). I've tried to overcome that by throwing i a few variations on a theme here and there, several of my own compositions, a Christmas tune from Sunny Spain, and something that sounds like cowboys playing Bach around the campfire on the cattle drive. You won't hear any vocals on this album (those of you who have heard me sing Christmas songs will be grateful), mostly my guitars, and the excellent percussion work of Maury Levine, which graced my last project. May it bring you at least a briefrespite from the often-maddening pace of life. PEACE.
