Ruey T. Stephens Jr. was born in Houston, Texas. He was considered a miracle child because his parents had lost 6 previous children to miscarriages and stillborn births. Yet during this pregnancy, his parents and other praying believers declared that this child would live. This 7th child was indeed birthed through prayer and faith. Ruey Stephens graduated from Madison Senior High School. He received a full scholarship in music to Texas Southern University. His gift on the saxophone would continue to open many doors for him that he would never imagine were possible. While pursuing his education at Texas Southern University, he won every award and scholarship in music that was available. He was accepted into the elite jazz band called the TSU All Stars. He was chosen to play his saxophone in various places across the country. He played for such dignitaries as Texas Governor Rick Perry and Senator Rodney Ellis at the State Capitol in Austin, Texas. He played for former president George H.W. Bush at a Texas Southern University gala. He was chosen to play as the saxophonist behind such artists as Jennifer Holiday. As a member of the TSU All Stars, he has opened up for such artists as Kirk Whalum, George Benson, Clark Terry, and the Temptations. He has formed various community church choirs and played for innumerable churches by request. It is apparent that this chosen man is gifted in music as a saxophonist as well as in teaching. Ruey Stephens became a recording artist while still a student. The first album recorded, which was released in 1998, was entitled 'Lord, I'm Yours and You're Mine.' The second album was self-titled 'Ruey Stephens'. This album continues to sell and entertain those who purchase it.
