Beach Metro News, Toronto - January 15, 2008 DUO RELEASES THIRD CD - REFLECTIVE by Bill MacLean 'Margot Rydall and Ivan Zilman who make up the performing group DUO, have just released their third CD. Called REFLECTIVE, the CD is a 16-piece collection of beautifully arranged and played flute and guitar music by these exceptional local musicians. Zilman has arranged a wide variety of musical styles - from J.S. Bach to Chick Corea, Beethoven to Gershwin, and Handel to Randy Newman - to challange the flute talents of Rydall. It's a challenge she rises to with consummate skill and talent, whether dipping skillfully and accurately through Chopin's famous Minute Waltz, or artfully interpreting the jazz lines of Charles Mingus' Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. And Zilman's guitar strikes the perfect balance, filling out the music with a simple minimalism. The two, as they say, make beautiful music together!' 'An elegant sound that reaches out to a global audience.' -Nancy Wilson, CBC / Newsworld Television 'Great playing! Wonderful sound!' -Peter Keigh, CJRT 91.1 fm 'Ivan Zilman and Margot Rydall managed to capture the hearts of classical music lovers during Monday's concert. The concert was just one of many special events being held during the 'Colours of Music' festival in Barrie this week' -Barrie Examiner 'Their taste in music is as impeccable as their playing' -Bill Gladstone, CJN Since DUO's partnership began in 1996, Margot Rydall, flute and Ivan Zilman, guitar have developed an original signature style, both with their passionate playing, and in their eclectic musical choices. They bring to their collaboration a lifetime of experience in Classical, Jazz, Rock and World music; and are constantly searching for great music from every genre to arrange for their unique performance approach. DUO has performed throughout Ontario, and British Columbia, Canada; their 1999 tour of Taiwan found them in Taipei during Taiwan's ' Earthquake of the Century'. DUO was proud to add a benefit concert for Earthquake Relief to their scheduled performances. DUO has been featured live in performances and interviews on CBC and Newsworld television and CBC radio. DUO's first two CD's, DUO and Collabyrinth have received enthusiastic reviews and regular radio airplay across Canada. Their newly released third recording, Reflective, features music from Renaissance to Romantic, Bach to Chick Corea, arranged in concert format with each selection leading deliberately (if at times surprisingly!) to the next.
