After learning a little about the music business, I thought fifth graders could help produce a CD. When approaching my principal about such a novel idea, his approval was stated in three words-'Go for it.' These words resulted in a special music project for four consecutive years with great support from colleagues, the school board, and the community. We formed our own business, Flying V Incorporated, with fifth graders contributing in all aspects of the project. Each time, enough money was made to cover expenses as well as to help our school with worthwhile causes including purchasing small acoustic guitars and keyboards for students to play during music class. By combining all the songs into one CD and offering it worldwide, we hope to generate money for our elementary music program for years. In regard to the songs on this CD, they are about the simple yet important things which can not be associated with monetary value. It seems as if we all too often fall into the traps of life until an event penetrates our very being reminding us about the most wonderful gifts. 'What does a child need?' The Child reminds us about a very powerful antidote-love. There are wedding vows, and there should also be vows to our children. The words 'I'll be there' are rightly repeated in My Child-My Vows To You; and, 'I'll love you more than your ears will ever hear, more than your eyes will ever see, and more than your heart will ever know' are words of great meaning. This particular song remained in it's original form for years until two fifth graders developed a melody and added their vocals. Both versions are on this CD. These Hands and Thank You Mom & Dad pay tribute to parents. Peace is stressed in Let Peace Grow, Let's Come Together, Peace Within, and Piece By Piece. The song, Rana, was written in honor of a student with Spina Bifida. Rana continues to make a difference in the lives of others with her determination and smile. Each song on the CD reconnects the listener to their basic roots with the vocal support of children fittingly helping in the reconnection. Flying V hopes you indeed find a song that helps you smile and sincerely appreciates your support. May the sound of music always be an important part of school curriculum.
