Sandy McClurg Internet Opens Doors For 8 Year Old Singer Dec 8, 2001 After 3 months, Sandy is still #1 on mp3.com's Musicals/Broadway charts with Rainbow Connection. Rainbow Connection is also #1 on Tampa Bay's Top 40 (all genres) and #15 on Florida's Top 40. September 22, 2001 Sandy is ranked #2 for 2 Become 1 and #3 for I Will Survive on mp3's Pop Charts for Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater. September 17, 2001 Sandy has another song that has just reached #1. It's the Star Spangled Banner on the World Traditions - North American charts. Sandy McClurg, 9 year old performer from Clearwater, has had a very favorable introduction to the power of the internet. On August 19th, 'Rainbow Connection' (from The Muppet Movie) was released on MP3.com. After only one day, it rose to # 53 on the Musicals/Broadway charts. Over the next week, it shot up to # 4. On August 28th, it ranked #2. And then, September 1st, Sandy's ranked #1. Another of her songs, 'Tomorrow' (from Annie), was released on the 20th. It has been steadily catching up and as of today's date, is at # 2, behind 'Rainbow Connection'. Other songs she loves to sing include City Lights, Black Velvet, Locomotion, Maybe, Little Shop Of Horrors, Skid Row, Music, Around The World, All That Jazz, Say My Name, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, That Don't Impress Me Much, Honey I'm Home, Material Girl, It's My Party, Flashdance ... What A Feeling, Do Re Mi, Wouldn't It Be Loverly and My Favorite Things. As a result of her exposure on the internet, she has received fan mail from all parts of the world, including Russia, Germany and Swaziland in Southern Africa. Sandy's first solo performance was at the age of 4, when she sang 'Driving Miss Lazy' from the environmental musical play, Assignment Earth. In the summer of '99, she joined the song and dance troupe known as Pizazz in which she featured as one of the leading junior solo singers, performing in shows in and around the Bay area. Sandy's big test came when The Clearwater Performing Art's Club presented her in a twenty minute solo song program at Clearwater's Winter Wonderland. The audience was amazed at this tiny little girl's stage presence, personality, maturity and sweet voice. Since then, she has been a regular performer at local clubs and restaurants singing songs from different genres (pop, country, boogie woogie, ballads, rock & roll, disco, traditional and Broadway). She was also a member of the singing and dance group known as Super Troupers. She has made regular appearances on Radio WTAN 1340's music program, Suncoast Showtime. She is a member of Reality Snap's Bandwagon and is listed in The Tampa Bay Entertainment Guide. Sandy loves singing and audiences of all ages are enthralled with her sweet, natural, silvery voice. Currently, 2004, she is a vocalist and trombonist with Sonny LaRosa and America's Youngest Jazz Band.
