Scarlet Keys grew up in a very musical family. Her father Charlie Keys, had a daytime talk show in the 60's and named his daughter after Scarlet O'Hara, and no, it's not a stage name, but she got it at birth. Scarlet's father had her later in life and was in the army in World War II. Due to the generational gap, Scarlet was exposed to the great classic popular songs of the 1930's and 40's by her father who sang to her constantly throughout her life. With a love of the classic standards in her blood, she began writing in the style of the old standards and what has come about is original songs reminiscent of those classics. Scarlet was a full time staff songwriter for Warner Chappell Publishing in Nashville and is now a full time assistant professor at the Berklee College of music in Boston where she teaches songwriting and lyric writing in all styles. Scarlet has spent most of her career writing for other artists. Her songs have appeared on television and been recorded by other artists resulting in a gold record in Europe and most recently, a number 1 hit in Britain and # 2 across Europe. Scarlet has now released a c.d. of her own as the singer/songwriter of a 10 song c.d. of all original jazz and blues featuring: Mark Shilansky on Piano, Steve Langone on Drums and Keala Kaumeheiwaon Bass with Jason Palmer on Trumpet.
