Space Age Tranceology
Frenchy and the Punk guitarist, Scott Helland, released the all instrumental Space Age Tranceology CD in 2000; a hypnotic atmospheric blend of acoustic and electric guitars and sounds; Brian Eno meets The Cure. Helland's 'Ambient Acoustic Instrumental Space Folk' sound on the CD is a culmination of eclectic musical experiences; from being commissioned to write instrumentals for artist installations to composing independent movie soundtracks to playing in hardcore bands in the eighties/nineties*. Space Age Tranceology is a spellbinding odyssey where every song has it's own distinct backdrop luring the listener into experiencing each unique environment. About Scott Helland: Scott Helland is an American-born guitarist, bassist and songwriter. He is also the guitarist for the Euro-American New York based duo, Frenchy and the Punk, who perform a non-traditional eclectic mix of musical styles. (Folk, Punk, Cabaret). His solo instrumental compositions meld a visceral mix of rock, alternative folk, Spanish, and neo classical styles into a 'subtle and densely layered acoustic guitar feast all bound together by an un-deniable punk sensibility.' Live, he utilizes the loop pedal to create his melodic acoustic soundscapes. As a teenager in the 80s, Helland played bass in punk and metal bands, released several critically acclaimed underground records, and toured in the US, Canada, and South America. He became a solo musician in 1996 and turned to the acoustic guitar as his instrument of choice. His solo recordings are filled with melodic and playfully diverse instrumentals that are influenced by his eclectic musical past. In the eighties and nineties, Helland played bass guitar with the bombastic Western MA hardcore punk bands Deep Wound, (which included Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis and Lou Barlow,) and Outpatients (with his brother Vis Helland). Both bands released critically acclaimed underground recordings that still sell today to punk record collectors and aficionados of the hardcore music scene here in the U.S, Asia and Europe. Both bands have also been chronicled in the recent books American Hardcore; A Tribal History, Choosing Death; The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grind Core and F***ed Up and Photocopied; Art of the Punk Movement. Deep Wound is also listed in the Encyclopedia of Punk.
