Product Notes

Scott Reis was born in Portland,OR and has lived there most of his life. He graduated in 1998 from the University of Portland with a degree in Mathematics and minors in Business and German. He received his Masters in Education in 2000 from the University of Notre Dame. He taught in Charlotte, North Carolina for three years before moving back to Portland in 2001. He currently teaches math and coaches cross country and track at De La Salle in North Portland. Scott has loved listening to music ever since he can remember, and he has a vast and diverse CD collection. Some of his favorite artists and musical influences are: Five for Fighting, Howie Day, Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, REM, Ben Folds, Counting Crows, Brandi Carlile, Sarah McLachlan, and Natalie Merchant. He took four years of piano lessons in high school, but wished he had started at a younger age. It wasn't until college that he picked up the guitar. He taught himself how to play and begin writing his own songs. He remembers strumming and singing alone in his dorm room, but never in front of people. It wasn't until he went to Notre Dame and one of his best friends encouraged him to sing at an open mic. He slowly gained confidence singing in front of people and even passed the test of singing in front of his high school students. Several of them even commented: 'Mr. Reis, you should try out for American Idol!' :) Scott began performing acoustic sets in coffeehouses around Portland in 2003. It was around this time that he started thinking seriously about recording his music. With the help of producer and engineer, Tim Briare, and the musical talents of his wife, Maureen Briare, Scott finished his debut CD, Carpe Diem, in January 2005. His CD is now available for sale at Everyday Music in Portland and online at cdbaby.com and iTunes. Scott plans to continue performing at various coffeehouses around Portland hoping to make a name for himself in the local music scene. Scott can be contacted at scottcreis@hotmail.com.
