For Them or Us?
I received my first guitar (an 80's electric guitar with a whammy bar) when I was twelve and the first thing that I did was write a song. It's now eleven years later and I've written over 1,000 songs. These 1,000+ songs have ranged from mellow acoustic songs to hard rock songs and I've even written some electronic music. A lot of them have made it to 4-track demos and CDs but some of them still remain at the foot of my bed. My latest release, For Them or Us? is a collection of acoustic tunes I've written over the past few years and performed with the help of a few guest musicians. For Them or Us? is inspired by my favorite artists, Coldplay, John Lennon, Neil Young and The Doors. I've been in a lot of bands and they've all been different. In 1996, The JBB was formed...it was sort of an alternative rock/pop band in the likes of Oasis/Pumpkins/STP. We put together an EP called Hoped to Get to Know You Better, my first CD. Following 2 years of playing live with The JBB, I formed 18, a hard rock band. Like The JBB, we were also a 3-piece but there was less melody and more guitars. We put together a five song EP but then broke up after 6 months. Following this, I wrote and produced my first two solo CDs entitled Seven and Trying, focusing more on the acoustic and less on the electric guitars. This set me up for my next band that I started while studying in Sweden. Jonas was a 4-piece acoustic band that included bongos, violin, and a pair of guitars. This band opened up the door to harmony and we toured through the student clubs and bars of Uppsala, Sweden--building a strong following. We put together a self-titled EP and performed together until the end of 2001. When I came home I wanted to get back to the rock and I put together a group called Shadowbox. We never did record, but we did tour the college and bar circuit of Worcester, MA. Our highlight was an opening slot for Blessid Union of Souls--in front of 500 fans. We performed together until the end of 2002 and at that time I started playing solo around Boston.
