The epic made-for-television presentation of John Jakes' American Bicentennial saga begins with "The Bastard" (1978), starring Andrew Stevens as the illegitimate son of an English nobleman who journeys through England, France, and Revolutionary America to gain his rightful inheritance. Kim Cattrall, Buddy Ebsen, Lorne Greene, William Shatner, and Tom Bosley also star. Next, the Kent chronicles continue in the sequel "The Rebels" (1979), as Philip Kent (Stevens) fights for American independence while at last confronting his father, the Duke of Kentland. Cattrall, Don Johnson, and Richard Basehart co-star. Finally, the historical trilogy concludes with "The Seekers" (1979), which focuses on Jarod Kent leaving the abusive household of his guardian brother to explore the Northwest Territory.
