Section 4 defies genre. The group's sound, fronted by the haunting alto in Serena Romero, is created by the members' diverse influences. What results is a dark rhythmic soup. Mike Lassen's guitar gives Section 4 it's rock and roll beef, a counter point to the jazz flavors of Chris Graham's vibraphone and keyboard spice. The aftertaste of hip-hop groove lingers in the expressive rhythm in Josh Hansen's bass and Justin Flanigan's drums. Section 4 has often been compared to England's Portishead and Iceland's Bjork, but never to anything in Chicago. The band has just self-released an eponymous self titled album and performed on stages of all sizes. Local shows include performances at Double Door, Elbo Room, Subterranean, The Note, and Reggie's Rock Club. S4 has also traveled out of state on numerous adventures across the mid-west. They look forward to bringing the Section 4 sound to more music lovers all over.
