Product Notes

Saxophonist/composer Sedric Choukroun hails from Paris (France), where he graduated from both the Lili and Nadia Boulanger Conservatory of Music and La Sorbonne School of Law. Choukroun began his professional career performing with David Khatile's Salsa Company, Gypsy Jazz Trio 'Sax-a-cordes', and Chamber Music Metasax Quartet. He soon began forming his own bands and in 1998 went on to lead an 18-piece Jazz Orchestra 'Le big Band d'Asnieres', earning him recognition as a Band Leader. After moving to New York in 2001, Choukroun became saxophonist-in -residence at Marjorie Eliot's Sunday concerts in Harlem's historic 'Sugar Hill'. There, he began playing with Jazz Masters Harold Ousley, Cecil Bridgewater, Benny Powell and Jimmy Owens, to name a few. Around the same time, he joined Charles McGee's D.C. Big Band and recorded with vocalist Ayana Low ('Knock me a kiss', 'Ghosts of women' Bashi-Productions). Choukroun currently serves as Musical Director for Allure Special Events which has made him one of the most in demand musicians in town. As such, he leads groups including fine artists like guitarists Freddy Bryant and Paul Meyers, bassists Darryl Hall and Thomas Brameri, drummers Alvin Atkinson and Alvester Garnett, and many others. In August 2003, Choukroun recorded his 1st album as a leader 'Sedric Choukroun/ In the Parlor' (CAP-979) on the prestigious Consolidated Artists Productions label. The album features 13 originals performed with a very tight band of rising talents: guitarist Adam Rafferty, bassist Paul Beaudery and drummer Rob Asare Perkins. Cadence reviewer Budd Kopman called it 'one of the special discs in my collection'.
