Dark Places & Great Escapes
Selahphonic is a Melbourne based band who use music and film to take their audience on a sonic and visual journey. Selahphonic was formed in 2004 as a ministry of Youth Dimension (a Para-Church schools ministry organization) with the aim to impact senior secondary schools students in a culturally relevant way that would connect with their hearts and minds. ??Over the years the use of film with their music has increased and is now a major part of the show. Their progressive rock style suits what is being ?communicated as they deal with issues that most teenagers and young adults are going through - Who am I? How do I be myself in a world that demands 'fake'? Do I hide? Do I run? Do I escape? Do I conform? What does that look like? How can I be free??? Selahphonic have recorded 3 EP's based around 3 different themes. Their ?latest EP 'Dark places and Great Escapes' works through core issue of ?shame and deals with abuse, suicide, sexuality, loneliness, how? we can be freed and how Jesus plays a vital part in that.?? Selahphonic's main focus over the past four years has been playing in high schools and youth events that stem from the schools they have?played at. The message presented is of hope and acceptance found ?in Jesus. ??Playing 40 to 50 schools per year combined with many youth events (including being the key speakers at two Youth Alive events in the past year), the band has seen many young lives impacted and begin their journey with Jesus.?? Solely based in Melbourne, 2008 has Selahphonic focused on connecting with youth in other states around Australia.
