Pink Whale & a Very Tall Tree
Shana Barry creates an alternate universe for kids of all ages on her new family album, A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree. The songs tell the tales of the multi-colored furry Fofers (rhymes with gophers) who live on the special secret island of Fof, where they enjoy many adventures. They climb magical trees into the clouds and ride their bikes on Rollercoaster Road. They row their boats across the bay and explore the forest, meadow and shore, befriending the wondrous plants and animals they share the island with. Barry wrote the songs for children, but people of all ages are responding to them. Simply arranged with voice, guitar and an occasional ukulele, parents say the music has a calming effect on their children and themselves. Barry has also created fofers.com (which she designed, illustrated, animated and built) where visitors can explore the island of Fof. The brightly colored website offers animated music videos, illustrated sing-along lyrics and free, printable coloring pages and paper cut-outs tied to the songs on A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree. Kids and parents or grandparents can listen to the album together while coloring the plants and animals of Fof, cutting out paper dolls or just singing along to the music.
