Product Notes

Runner-up in the 2004 Ontario Council Of Folk Festival's 'Songs From The Heart' Songwriting Competition '...keeps us on our toes by crossing the borders of alt-country and delving into flamenco, Beatle-esque pop, bossa nova, and rockabilly ...entertainingly unusual lyrics ... this is a great CD' - Mary Beth Carty (Penguin Eggs Magazine, 2004 Summer issue) 'One of the few people I know who can go far in the music business.' - Brian Gladstone (Festival Director, Winterfolk) 'Thoughtful, fun, and engaging. Highly recommended!' - Steve Fruitman (producer/host of Back To The Sugar Camp, CIUT-FM 89.5, Toronto) 'Accomplished stage presence and great songs.' - Bill MacLean (Beach Metro) 'A very entertaining musician. Check him out!' - Jim Marino (producer/host of The Freewheeling Folk Show, CFMU 93.3, Hamilton) Shawn Sage has been making a name for himself as a very promising, young singer-songwriter; gaining recognition and earning raves for his gifts as both a writer and performer. His comical protest song, Let's Get Bush Off The Wagon was awarded runner-up in the humour category of the 2004 Ontario Council Of Folk Festival's 'Songs From The Heart' songwriting competition. This irreverent song has struck such a chord with anti-Bush audiences that both CITY-TV in Toronto and CBC Radio featured him performing it amid their election coverage. Shawn has played the first annual Toronto City Roots Song Celebration (sharing a bill with Fred Eaglesmith and Sylvia Tyson), the 2005 Winterfolk Festival, and he recently won the 'Last Chance Audition Showcase', winning a spot at the 2005 Brampton Folk Festival. His debut album, ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS, has received airplay on various stations across Canada, including CBC, and has been met with critical acclaim. A review in the Summer 2004 issue of Penguin Eggs Magazine, Mary Beth Carty calls it 'a great CD' with 'entertainingly, unusual lyrics.' Steve Fruitman, host of Back To The Sugar Camp on CIUT-FM in Toronto, calls it, 'a great blending of musicality (that) converges to produce a really good album of songs that are thoughtful, fun and engaging' and awarded one of it's tracks, 'Marijuana & Alcohol' as 2004's 'Song Of The Year' in the show's annual 'Porcupine Awards.' Bill MacLean of Beach Metro raves, 'the songs are strong and the performances equally so.' Since the album's release, Shawn has done show after show promoting the album in bars and cafes. In bars, he wins over crowds with his drinking songs and his lively, comedic numbers. In coffeehouses, the audiences are drawn to his poignant, insightful lyrics and his strong melodies. He is indeed a versatile performer who can entertain crowds in almost any venue - be it a folk club, sports bar, or punk rock dive. This is partly due to the eclectic nature of his music, but it is also due to his charismatic stage presence, witty banter between songs, and flair for spontaneity. Currently beginning the recording of his second album, Shawn Sage is a hard working artist who will continue to be a fixture on the Canadian music scene, playing as much and wherever he can and writing and recording his songs.
