Shroomy Shroom is a psychedelic indie rock band with a diverse repertoire of original tunes ranging from gloomy, funereal numbers a la The Cure or Pink Floyd, to goofier tongue-in-cheek selections a la Beck or Ween. An eclectic mix of jazz players, electro-vaudevillians, and straight up guitar rockers, Shroomy Shroom draws from a broad musical palette. The massive distortion fuelled 'wall of sound' that crunches along in one song in their set will often give way to light, floaty keys and sophisticated, jazzy solo work in the next. Their weirdly poetic lyrics and meandering melodies are imaginative and memorable and are tastefully accentuated by sweet two and three part vocal harmonies. Shroomy Shroom's music has enjoyed radio, internet and cable TV exposure, but the members of the band are experienced San Francisco Bay Area all-star musicians who achieved notoriety long before joining the band: Richard H. Phillips is the mastermind behind Shroomy Shroom and the author of their music. He has played with the Shroomies, Bacon Park and the Plastic Lennon Band. Barb Golden, ex-housewife and school teacher, is an international multi-media artist and Bay Area music legend. Other current groups to enjoy her keyboard, vocal and percussion stylings, including Gamelan Sekar Java and the Wigband, have performed widely in the Bay Area and in Europe. She produces and hosts the radio show 'Crack 'o Dawn' on KPFA in Berkeley,CA which has had a loyal following for more than 15 years. Capital is a guitar and vocal phenom, the product of a ground-breaking, top secret experiment that fused Jimi Hendrix and James Taylor's genetic codes. He has lent his talents to Colonel Knowledge, Kelly Takunda Orphan, Oba Oba, Superbacana, DJ Nozawa, Shingo2, the Terracotta Troupe and Capital Hill. His fans love him for his captivating performances and incomparable guitar skills. Jason Levis is a Bay Area bred drummer and composer also working with Married Couple, Heftpistole, Blowout, The Hoax, and the Jenny Maybee trio. Adam Windham brings it all together on the bass.
