Making the 'Tradition' Attainable. Sligo Creek is an Acoustic Irish/Scottish/American Folk Band based in Maryland. With over 20 years of performing experience in various acts, the members of Sligo Creek have sought to put together a band with two very specific goals: First, to play the very best of the best, as far as traditional folk music is concerned. Secondly, to play it in a way that the 'average Joe' in the audience will come away with a new appreciation for, or introduction to, what is arguably some of the best music ever written. Ballads that are sung with emotion; Powerful Sea Shanties; Upbeat Stories and Classic Melodies sung the way they were meant to be. That's Sligo Creek. Simple. Beautiful. Attainable. Welcome to the Tradition Will Brown (guitar, vocals, tin whistle), is a veritable human encyclopedia of random folk songs. He grew up listening to any Celtic music he could get his hands on. Bands like the Clancy Brothers, Planxty, the Pogues and the Furies, and many lesser knowns. He picked up a tin whistle one day, and didn\'t put it down for about 4 years -earning the affectionate nickname \'the pied piper\' from those who enjoyed hearing him learn (like his mother). He also earned less affectionate nicknames like \'hey! *&&hole\' from those who didn\'t find it so endearing (like his neighbors). No thanks to the latter, he is now quite accomplished and enjoyable to listen to. He\'s not a bad singer either. Dean Austin (bass, vocals), whose eclectic tastes seem to savor songs so unknown that the original artists themselves have forgotten they ever wrote them is the band\'s research guru. Finding songs worth playing is his specialty, especially since Will would sing just about anything. His gray hair was likely part of the reason that he and Will switched to Folk music from their punk/rock-n-roll days. That, and the fact that they were concerned about their hearing. What? Paul Davy (lead guitar, vocals) who prior to jamming with Will and Dean had never even heard an Irish song, was a excellent addition to the band. Paul was discovered whilst playing his magical guitar neath an old Oak tree. When Will and Dean saw how many little animals had gathered round to hear his song, they knew he had to become a part of Sligo Creek. Talking him into it is a another long long story...the promise of fame and fortune is what finally convinced him. We hope you enjoy the music. We sure enjoyed making it.
