SMITH ISLAND is the outcome of a fortunate accidental meeting between GABRIELLE STUBBERT (vocals), born, raised and educated in the underbelly of Hollywood, and ANGUS CLARK (lead guitar), native New Yorker, classically trained on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Their first album ASYLUM is based on the true story of Zelda Zardoz, a down on her luck heroine of the 70's whose life of tragedy and drug addiction lead her down a path of illusions that eventually end in madness. The band is named after The Smith Island Asylum - an orphanage that exists only in the deep dark fantasy world of a paranoid schizophrenic. SMITH ISLAND's music is the twisted, almost rock-opera-esque soundtrack to Zelda's demented cerebral adventures. In addition to Gabrielle Stubbert (vocals) and Angus Clark (lead guitar), the band is composed of New York music scene talents: Steve Dawson (guitar), Pemberton Roach (bass) and Mike 'Beans' Benino (drums).
