Wonderful things sometimes come to an end, but then again that 'end' sometimes gives way to new paths. After two years of touring the world as a heavy metal drummer, former Killswitch Engage/Aftershock drummer Tom Gomes began making his vision of creating a soft and ambient sound a reality. This vision would lead him to create music that is far different from any of his previous works. Tom began writing acoustic based songs purely for the sake of hearing the soothing and dreamy vocals of girlfriend Sara Saffery. Although this was only their initial attempt at writing together, they knew right away that they had stumbled upon something genuine and unique. In the summer of 2004, this musical chemistry lead to the formation of Something of a Silhouette. Throughout the rest of 2004, the pair would continue to write in their spare time. But as Tom went back to audio engineering school and Sara still finishing up her fine arts degree at USC, they found it hard to make the band a priority. But by year's end, the duo finally made their vision a reality. The product of their heart and soul: the release of their first EP 'Chapter One' by Massachusetts indie label Devils Head Records in 2005. As their education came to a finishing point, Tom and Sara knew it was time to put the band into full swing. Something of a Silhouette first added Ben Zales, bass player and fellow audio engineer to the lineup. The next steps however would prove to be more trivial than they expected. After multiple unsuccessful guitarist tryouts, the band finally picked up Kevin Chen (former Supertones/ Stairwell/Bloodshed) and recent addition Adrian Lujan (former Fata Morgana/ Amles) to add to the SOAS line up. The musical artistry and simple, yet deep and daunting lyrics can be heard on their their 2005 Devil's Head records release 'Chapter One'. Something of a Silhouette continues with more ambient, melodic rock songs as they bring their new upcoming songs to live performances in 2006. If you enjoy music from bands such as Muse, Keane, Jimmy Eat World, and Fiona Apple then you should definitely check out Something of a Silhouette.
