Living the Blues
Phil Blackmon was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi and later relocated to New Burgh, New York where he attended New Burgh Free Academy, a pre-requisite school for West Point Military Academy and played in the school band. After attending the original Woodstock concert he decided to be a musician and has played wth many great giants in music such as: B.B. King, Gladys Knight, Eric Clapton, Little Milton, K.C. and Sunshine Band, Rick James, The Bar Kays, The Jazz Crusaders, Conrad Johnson Big Band, Calvin Owens Big Band, Eddie 'Clean Head' Vincent, Les McCann, Dizzie Gillespie, Arnett Cobb, Grover Washington, kirk Whalum. Phil worked as band director on Japan tour of Fire and Desire, U.S.S.R. tour of B.B. King, 'Live at Ole Miss' album, Singapore with Manhattans. He has also been on the Casino circuits in Reno, Vegas and Atlantic City. He continues to work with Jazz group Seabreeze, George Thomas & KTSU band. He is the music director for the Ensemble Theater's production of off Broadway Musical 'Nat King Cole & Me'and the Greater Zion Baptist Church band.
