The group Stefka was formed around singer/songwriter Stephanie Ruijsenaars, who is responsible for most of the compositions. Stephanie studied piano, trombone, and two years classical singing at the Conservatory in Maastricht. After that, she switched to jazz, and also started studying Theatre Science at the University of Amsterdam. As part of her studies, she went to Madrid for six months, where she became very interested in Spanish and Latin American music. She felt that Spanish was the language in which she could really express herself best. While successfully finishing her studies at the University of Amsterdam, she started composing several songs to poems by famous poets as Federico García Lorca, Pablo Neruda and Alfonsina Storni. She also composed several songs to her own lyrics, and covered famous songs such as "Ojalá que llueva café\' and \'Alfonsina y el mar\' in her own, special way. In 2005, she recorded her first album, entitled \'Del Recuerdo de Amor\'. This album was the birth of the group Stefka. Many succesful concerts followed, in theatres and several times for the radio. In 2007 Stefka recorded new songs and brought out the mini-CD Del Llanto. Recently Stefka reached the semi finals in the Amsterdam popsong Competition.
