For the Kids
Steve - the bio Steve brings post punk psychedelia out of the opium dens and into the club with dark beats and electronic mayhem sugar-coated in post punk shoe gazing. Formed in 2004, this Jacksonville, Florida quartet is the residual components of Common Thread and Jon Todd -- two regional acts of the late eighties and nineties. Steve is the brainchild of experimental DJ Bruce Tomecko and ex-Common Thread guitarist/vocalist Travis Taylor. Aided by the smooth bass grooves of ex-Jon Todd bassist Mike Easters and Philadelphia transplant guitarist Andy McKay, Steve provides the hauntingly dark sounds and moods created by the interconnectedness of music from disparate genres. The pop sensibilities of Steve allow the listener to discover the darkness roaming free in Taylor's questionable lyrics and at the same time, tap along to the groove of despair and comedy all oiled up and passionately splayed out for one to roll in or on. Steve brings to light their influences without cloning or pretension. Influences such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division, the Residents, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sonic Youth, the Flaming Lips, My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3, the Charlatans UK, the Chameleons UK, Interpol and Radiohead as well as classic rock icons such as the Beatles, Stones, and Captain Beefheart drive the basis of this new dark sound - but it's nothing to get hung up about. Enjoy what's been described as the goings on inside a German man's head: 'dark and danceable!'
