From the opening track, "3 Feet from God," you will settle into another world and forget your daily routine. These diverse instrumental compositions, though not religious pieces of work, will move your spiritual being to a renewed sensation of tranquility. Steve Genereux, with his love of music, has created The Journey Home. A work of art looming with the sweet sounds of nylon and steel string guitars along with the amazing whiny growl of Steve's fretless bass featured on several tracks. Piano, woodwinds, strings and a myriad of other orchestral instruments combined with sparsely used keyboard synthesizers, help to compliment and set the tone for a diverse adventure in this unique innovation of sound. You will be impressed with the mixture of musical textures and the oneness of flow the CD has as you move from song to song. The lofty "Seashells" calls to memory a blustery fall day walking the beaches of New England, while the looming mood of "Winters Tree" shifts the mind to a white field with a lone tree and snow falling lazily to the ground. This collection of songs was created with the gifted musical spirit that ignites the fire in Steve's soul. "I don't over analyze my music. I take what feels natural and I use that to build on." No single song on this CD took more than 3 hours to complete including the recording time for each instrument. "My ideas usually progress so fast I really don't have time to think about what I should play; I just record what flows from my heart." The poignantly vast sounding solo guitar of "Aison," as with all of the other guitar tracks you hear, required only a single take using one guitar and no studio tricks or overdubs for the initial recording, usually five minutes or so. "Adding the accompaniment after the first guitar or bass track has been recorded is where the bulk of the writing and recording time is spent." Steve is truly an artist, whose time has ultimately come! Each track will move your soul and allow your inner self to become one with the music. The somewhat light mood of "Innocent One" enlightens you with fond memories of the past and is also the smooth melodious favorite among family and friends. "Saving Grace" is a movingly orchestrated piece featuring cello that complements the steel string guitar beautifully. Though to a large extent, a new age feel embellishes this CD; a classical flavor occasionally shines through lending a feeling of aged warmth to the overall compositions. It will leave you wanting more! The CD tracks were composed and arranged by Steve in his home/commercial studio, Stone Ground Recording Studio. Steve engineered, mixed and mastered the entire project including graphic design, photography, assembly and packaging. Cover art was originally colored by his son Alecx. Steve then took over in Photoshop to create the final art you see on the CD cover today. This process of doing everything himself allowed Steve to keep the selling price of this CD very reasonable. So enjoy this CD by the fire, in the hot tub, meditating, or just relaxing with your eyes closed, you will feel a calming force from each track you hear.
