Stonebank's Kirk McFarlin was at first reluctant to record a Christmas album. 'My record company asked me to do it. I didn't have any idea how to pull that one off.' McFarlin agreed anyway and began recording in July of 2001. But focus was hard to come by, even with the help of some of his longtime musical friends. Then the planes hit the towers. 'I haven't been that emotional in, well... forever!' recalls McFarlin. Needing some way to channel that emotion, Stonebank quickly gelled into a cohesive recording group. In the months that followed they worked relentlessly during every available waking hour. Friends would stop by and suddenly find themselves playing on a track. The resulting collection moves through some of the most classic Christmas songs of all time. If there is such a thing as a concept Christmas album, this is it. The song selection has little to do with Santa and tinsel. Instead it focuses on the origins of the holiday. Neither overtly religious nor commercial, the project takes a fresh look at the birth of a very influential and peaceful man. Stonebank uses any means at their disposal to inflect the record with color and emotion. Rhythms pulse and harmonies soar. Percussion abounds amid both acoustic and electronic elements. Traditional melodies are coupled with influences from a broad musical spectrum. Let 'Christmas' bring a new inspiration to your holiday season.
