WARNING: TRACK 1 (QUESTIONS) IS INTENDED TO DEMONSTRATE THE BAND'S GROWTH FROM IT'S ORIGINAL 'GARAGE SOUND' INTO WHAT IS NOW StoneBoX. HENCE, THE FIRST MINUTE OF THE SONG IS QUIET AND FULL OF REVERB. THIS DOES NOT ACCURATELY REPRESENT THE QUALITY OF THE ENTIRE ALBUM. THE TRANSITION FROM THE POOR SOUND QUALITY TO THE CD QUALITY SOUND OF THE BULK OF THE SONG REPRESENTS A BEFORE AND AFTER SNAPSHOT OF THE ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF StoneBoX. Every now and then, you hear a CD that makes you say: 'I should listen to that again!' This new release from StoneBoX does just that. Have you ever noticed how a good CD just seems to get better each time you listen to it? This is one of those CDs. The first time through, you notice the raw, driving sound that encourages you to turn the volume up just a little more. Before the end of the end of the third track, you are getting yelled at... 'TURN THAT DOWN!' But, it matters not because you can't hear who ever it is that has decided to order you around anyway. The forth track slows things down a little, but the CD soon returns to fevered pitch and peaks with the title track (Instinct - #8). Now this is rock! What a ride! But, we are not done yet... The final four tracks on the disc take you further into this journey and the CD closes with the epic, nearly 10 minute long bonus track entitled 'Lifted'. This song by itself is worth the price of this StoneBoX release. With a progressive overall texture and heartfelt lyrics sung with the passion of one who has lived them, Lifted takes the listener on a mini-journey that puts just the right finishing touch on a disc that is unlike anything you are likely to find these days. What makes this even more impressive is that, according to the insert credits, this disc was entirely recorded and produced by the band with no outside influence. Now, I've heard bands that do this before-it's not all that unusual these days. But, StoneBox has managed to put together a well produced, very listenable product-and that is unusual. I like this CD better with each listen. As a parent, I appreciate the spiritual tone of the lyrics as well as the lack of profanity that is so prevalent in music today. I have no problem allowing my kids to listen to StoneBoX. As a long time fan and critic of independent music (as well as one who is just about sick and tired of the cookie-cutter, over-produced, over-engineered, over-bearing commercial releases), I strongly recommend this CD. It is definitely one of the better music purchases I have made recently. This is what music is supposed to be! BRD - IMR (Independent Music Review) What the fans are saying: I really like this CD. It's different than anything I have heard in a while. The song 'Point A' really grabbed me. I can relate with the feelings it brings out in me. -Stacey: Irvine, CA Buy it, buy it, BUY IT! You will like it whether or not you are into indi music! -Paul: Lakewood, CO Stonebox is a refreshing break from what I have been hearing lately. These guys should get signed. -Pierre: Grand Junction, CO Good, raw music that keeps me interested. I like the spiritually based lyrics. We need more stuff like this. It's one of six CDs I take with me everywhere. -JRS: Ketchikan, AK I downloaded one of their songs on mp3.com a couple of years ago (back when mp3.com was a cool site). They had a song called outlaw that was #1 in a rock category. I liked it a lot and have been waiting for the full length CD. It was worth the wait. -Kayton: Detroit, MI.
