Product Notes

Jack Tamul and James T. Miller have released two other CDs about the Everglades: Pahayokee: A Plea for Life A Song Cycle of the Everglades, featuring Baritone, John Boehr of the Minnesota, Santa Fe and Palm Beach Operas and Voices of Everglades National Park, ambient recordings of birds, frogs and other natural sounds. Jack Tamul attended Boston's Berklee College of Music and Jacksonville University, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Music in composition and theory. A post-graduate scholarship and grant to study composition lured him to the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland in 1972. Concurrently, he was hired by the Finnish Radio Electronic Music Studio to compose pieces for broadcast. On his return to the U.S., Tamul worked on electronic sound tracks for several films sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and PBS. Tamul has received commissions for orchestra, dance theatre, film and multi-media, including works for the Sinking Creek Film Festival, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Ballet Theatre, and Florida and Tennessee Fine Arts Councils. His Strong interest in social issues and inerpreting life sounds have spawned such projects as Porposises: Betty & Eva (cable-cast on Cinemax and HBO), Come to Florida Before It's Gone (aired on PBS), A Child for Our Time (a birthing), Genesis (exploring the creation of the universe), and The Parthenon (using natural structure sounds). Jack Tamul performs as a solo artist, and with the Jack Tamul Ensemble, at contemporary music festivals, museums and colleges. James T. Miller grew up next to the Everglades and is a frequent visitor there. The Florida Naturalist Magazine, an adjunct of Audubon magazine, published his article 'The Aesthetics of the Everglades' in 1988 . Snowy Egret, the oldest nature publication in the United States published 'Disney and the Duskies', his essay about the impending extinction of the Dusky Seaside Sparrow. He recorded all the sounds in this CD as well as the ambient sounds in Pahayokee: A Plea for Life and Voices of Everglades National Park and wrote the lyrics for Pahayokee: A Plea for Life and the liner notes for all the Everglades CDs.
