Live at the Logan 3
This is the third of three live albums we've cultivated from two separate shows recorded at Kelly's Logan House in Wilmington, Delaware. Both were recorded at what would prove to be poignant times for the band, both as a whole and as individuals. The first show, recorded on September 10, 2005, came only a week or so after we had first discussed the possibility of us not touring any more. With the exception of a handful of people in our inner circle, no one knew of this. We all recognized that this was one of our last chances to get our unrecorded material on tape, and the songs have a real sense of urgency as a result. The second show, recorded November 5, 2005, came after we had announced the end of the band. We all knew there were only a limited number of shows left. The recorded versions of each song on this and the other two albums are exactly what we played on those two nights. The only editing done has been to master the recordings and place the songs in the order they appear on the albums. There are no overdubs on any of the songs. Any mistakes we made at the shows are there. I'd like to say that this is completely intentional, but that of course wouldn't be true. The fact that the songs aren't perfect really happened out of necessity as much as anything else. It is great though, in that it allows us to document what we sounded like live at the top of our game. The songs presented here really do capture how we sounded at the pinnacle of our abilities as a live act - and we always were a much better live band than we were anything else. This final album of our three-album set covers the most ground musically. More than any of the other volumes, this one really shows the diversity of the band. One of the best parts about playing in Tar Beach was the fact that any one of us could bring an idea and we would give it a shot at turning it into a song. That freedom is certainly a luxury in the world of music and is evident in the material on this album. The songs on this collection are very different stylistically and also represent almost every period of the band. The songs here were written from early 2001 up until a couple of weeks before they were recorded. They vary from the latin-influenced "Subelo" to the bluegrass-funk fusion of "Santos" to the straight ahead rock of "Affirmation." There is the southern-rock sounding "Perry County," the very eclectic "On 95" and the ballad "The Unwilling." There is our cover of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," and also different versions of four of our songs that appeared on one of the two previous volumes in this set - "South Street," "Silent Sries," "Take Your Time," and "Ivory." **NOTE: If you want to buy all three 'Live at the Logan' albums, purchase the 'Live at the Logan Full 3-Album Set,' as you'll save yourself some money!
