Product Notes

Following the success of 'Long Ride Home,' Pie offers up a new collection of songs that will get you out of your chair and dancing around the kitchen. From the 'garage band feel' first track, 'I Don't Like It', to the front porch simple pickin' and harmonies on the title cut, 'Jubal', this CD folk-rocks along and leaves you feeling it ended too soon when the last note is struck. Her vocals are masterful and emotional without being over wrought. It's her unique style that keeps us all coming back for more. Born in Texas and raised in NE Oklahoma, Pie developed her musical and vocal skills from listening to artists like Gayle Garnett, The Platters, Jo Stafford, Elvis, Rosemary Clooney, Buddy Holly, Lightnin' Hopkins, Dylan, Baez, Tom Paxton, Gordon Lightfoot, Judy Collins, Jackson Browne, whew! By now you must get the idea. Eclectic is the key to Pie music. Her voice laments and broods on 'In My Heart' and at the same time pushes the edge of defiance. 'Laredo' finds her with both arms in the air waving for the waiter to bring another pitcher of margaritas. 'Good-bye' gently opens the door to dealing with parting and then 'I Miss You So Much' seems to offer comfort with a sock-hop back beat that makes you want to grab the one you love and hug-dance. 'Oh, Mandolin' has already been recorded by Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike on their 'Turtle Wings' CD release. Pie performs it here as a mandolin duet with co-writer Debbie Nims. The haunting quality of this song is destined to make it a bluegrass classic. The title song 'Jubal' has got to be the best dog song ever penned. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because I can't listen without adding my voice. It draws me in and makes me a part. If you've already discovered Pie through her first CD, titled, 'Long Ride Home', there's no doubt in my mind you will want to add 'Jubal' to your collection. Rita R.
